What Did You Last Watch On Tv?

Recommended Posts

It's probably less exciting for you because you are British. We don't get that kind of humour here across the pond, so it seems a lot cooler to us. That said, I've never seen Little Britain...

Perhaps. I imagine you've got it in some form, because the humour's pretty juvenile, maybe it's just the British subject matter ?

Last watched: Doctor Who

Oh God, that's a load of shite as well. What is it even about, I mean, what the fuck ? The special effects are so bloody shoddy as well.

I'm sounding like such a miserable bastard, aren't I ?

I don't really enjoy British shows. Coupling was pretty funny, other than that, can't really think of anything I don't flip the channel when I see it's aired.

Oh, there was a time I watched Eastenders, HA!

Probably 'cos you've only seen the rubbish ones ! Have you seen any of these:

Spooks

Life on Mars

Skins

Peep Show

The Office

Monkey Dust

Shameless

The Peter Serafinowicz Show

That Mitchell and Web Look

?

(Eastenders = soap = abomination.)

British humour is an extremely aquired taste if you live this side of the pond and chances are the only reason you get it is because you have close realtives who are British - in my case, my closest British relation being my father, who was rased in Manchester. I grew up in an house saturated in Beatles, Corrie (Fuck Eastenders ;)), Man United and Monty Python.

Last thing I watched: the news.

I was kidding about Eastenders.

From your list, I think a least half airs here and probably more on BBC Prime but I've never watched any.

That's why then ! If you want decent British programmes, try Life on Mars/Spooks/Peep Show. That's without any of the classics.

Spooks and Life on Mars are dramas though, so there's no humour involved. Just cracking programmes.

It's just different somehow. The accents, quirkiness, the inattention to anything lewd.

It's about an alien that goes back, or forward, in time to save the human race a shit ton of times. The old ones, as you probably know, were kids material that have sparked fear and hiding behind the couch in generations of British children. The new ones, courtesy of Russell T. Davies, are much more mature in their content, more like a dramedy. The show is campy as hell, but it's fun to watch. And yes, I realize that the special effects suck, but that's part of the reason to watch it - to laugh.

So it's all done with tongue firmly in cheek, then ? To be honest I've only seen a few clips here and there, and I couldn't be sure. Even so, I'd still be cringing my arse off haha.

For me, Daleks aren't too scary. Cybermen, on the other hand, make me want to do the "behind the couch" shuffle.

Yep, it's tongue-in-cheek, at least for me. For the most part none of the episodes are all that serious. It's just weird science fiction crap mushed together. You're allowed to cringe; even I do sometimes. ;)
