as an ex-Vancouverite this is as best as I've ever seen MG.

I don't understand the necessity of mentionning that you're an ex-Vancouverite ;)

As an ex-Electrical Engineer, I found last night's show to be top notch.

You ARE referring to the Kingston show correct. I wasnt that impressed with the show in terms of sound and lighting. The Ale House is so small that clearly none of Matt's stage lighting would fit on stage...so that is understandable BUT the sound wasnt that great. Not sure if was because I was at the front to the far right hand side or just plain ole shitty sound. You could barely hear his voice (sometimes not at all) on a few songs where the bad was really jamming hard. There were also more than a few instances where there was feedback and minimal squeeling.

Sorry, I guess that does read oddly. I meant that I've had the chance to see him alot, and Friday's show was comparitively great.

Oh I see...point taken! ;)

Now, back to my complaining:

And for anyone who went to the Massey Hall show... did Matt confirm whether or not he was recording it for a live album? Thanks!

When I met Matt after the show, I asked him if it was going to end up on a live record, and he told me he'd see about it, and that he'd have to listen to it to see if it sounded good enough. So it definitely got recorded, and hopefully he's happy with what they put together that night.

The ale house is just a bad music venue, man. We drove almost 1000 miles round trip (we just got home at 9:15 tonight) and I just wasn't impressed with the venue itself. Why would you make the actual stage floor so small?

Side note: my wife is watching the MTV awards right now and the pussycat dolls are on and wow they suck.

one hit wonders. I don't think they are a "band" anymore, cause all they are doing is hosting reality shows looking for a new 'pussycat.'

Yha the Ale House sucks. Im not impressed as to why they would choose a location like that. Like I mentioned I was at the far right hand side at the front so perhaps the only decent sound was coming front and center. As for the stage...lol...what stage? There are far better places in Kingston. I would love to see him play at the newly revamped Grand Theatre.

Im going to the Hamilton show on Friday....the sound in that place is amazing...so Im really looking forward to actually hearing Matt this time around.

Ahh, over on the right hand side. There were some real douchebags over there, I don't mind telling you. I was trying to get back to my wife with a couple beers and some tiny little dude gave me this attitude like "go around. I'm ETS." Okay, whatever that means. I suppose that considering that little punk I'm glad the sound sucked on that side of the stage. It's the show he deserved.

but I was on that sideeeeeeeeeee

lol

no worries though...I almost got into a fight with 2 drunk girls that pushed their way to the frnt and then tried to go through my friend. People are gross. At Massey Hall I had 3 drunk guys in front of me...2 passed put and the other one puked. I hope my experience at the Hamilton show is better

Kitchener:

kitchenersetlist.jpg

(The woman who got it from Lance let me snap a pic. Yep, those are Lance's notes about who to bring what during the show.)

The actual setlist (Matt switched up the encore on stage):

Avalanche

Weapon

A Single Explosion

Odette

Born Losers

The Devil's in Your Details

Load Me Up

Put Out Your Lights

I'm a Window

99% of Us Is Failure

Blue Skies Over Bad Lands

Black Helicopter

Champions of Nothing

----

Giant

Apparitions

It's Been a While Since I Was Your Man

Matt was sporting the "No Rico" shirt. The smattering of "Rico" requests were then expected (but sounded like they were in on the joke). Not a half-bad way to deflate those requests.

Really nice venue - sort of an old-school theatre with nice plush seats. The audience was seated for the entire show, then gave Matt a standing ovation after the first set, and stood for the encores.

Matt was much quieter than either of the shows I saw last fall. There was a little bit of joking around before "Born Losers" (and a slight jazz vamp from the band) and some comments about a Vancouver author and William S. Bourroughs before "I'm a Window", but that was about it.

I was a little surprised by how many people lined up at the tour bus - way more than I expected. (I finally summoned the nerve to get a pic with Matt - thanks, Dale!)
