I honestly don't understand the Calgary complaints.

Listen, this was a crowd of 15-20 thousand people with diverse musical tastes... some big Dallas Green fans, some big Hip fans, some big Matt Good fans and some casual rock fans. You can't be cracking out the weird shit for a show like that.

As Matt mentioned. The beauty of a hits set is that the majority of the crowd can sing along. I was there the entire weekend and i didn't see a crowd sing along that much for an entire set all weekend (mind you, i skipped on the hip).

The fall acoustic tour gave the hardcore fans a chance to hear some of the more obscure stuff.

I for one am extremely satisfied in the Vfest set list. As far as I'm concerned Matt was headlining. I didn't give a rats ass about the Hip. My purchase decision was cemented when I saw Matt on the list. Naturally 10 other bands made sure i was satisfied.

Obviously you have the right to air an unhappy opinion, but try to cut the guy some slack. I thought the set was fantastic and very much venue appropriate. And it was great to see Matt enjoying himself on stage... That's gotta be worth something.

for what it's worth nearfantastica I dig what your shoveling...it wasn't all about the set but the experience overall. which for you was lacking. Like others said going to that sort of show one should expect that sort of set to be played...but it is MG and he would be one I could definitely see playing no hits or doing a set of elo covers...

hey there,

just got back from the Matt Good show in Vancouver at the Orpheum. I got the setlist from the soundboard guy. It was a solid 2-hour show and I was happy to hear some older tunes like Everything is Automatic, Avalanche, Blue Skies Over Badlands and Weapon. For a while there I thought Matt might just play the entire "Hospital Music"; Black Helicopter and 99% of Us is Failure were my favourites live from that album. And maybe it was just me but I wasn't too keen on the newest arrangement for Apparitions. His bandmates were great. I liked the details of the guitars and drum patterns (i.e. that sounded like clapping).

There was bit of stage banter too. He shared the notion of moving to Palm Springs and just playing the lounge/hotel bar circuit and it was hilarious as the band would do a lil' riff and Matt would kind of scat over it. He said if it works for someone like Michael Buble and not his method of writing his own material than that's where the money is. The band also played some filler as Matt walked over to get his beer; he said there should be something to pass the time when he walked the 14 feet. Then when he was out of beer, someone offstage walked on with a towel draped over his arm to give him a new cup. Some kind jumped on stage too and got escorted out after he had some time to walk around. Just wished he played at least one some on acoustic guitar but then again it was amazing to have two encores. I hope he enjoys a rest at home. Great show.

Vancouver June 26th setlist:

Champions

Single Explosion

Odette

Born Losers

Devil's

Avalanche

Load Me Up

Put Out Your Lights

Blue Skies

Black Helicopter

I'm a Window

99%

Apparitions

Weapon

Wish I was there, sounds like a great show. I thought he would play 2 encores in Vancouver like he did in Toronto. I don't really get why the big venue shows get a longer set list by 4-5 songs but oh well. It's up to him I guess how big of an encore he plays, if he is really into it that night.

HOlY shit, he played 20 songs???? Awesome... I was there and it was over way too soon. It always seems like that when you're having a wicked time. I could have stayed all night.... Weapen was my fave... blew the roof off... Everything they played was fantastic... I liked Apparitions.. was glad it was with the full band... neato lap thingy that dude was playing.. he was really good, that guy.... all of them were so on last night....

Loved the clapping on Alert Status Red. And the cheers on Giant... the lights were the best I've seen in a long time...

I would have paid way more to see that show.. it was one of the best I've seen..

I got to see Lilah, his niece, and nephew Seqouia hanging outside with their parents getting their tickets.. that was neat... and I saw his parents too. proud family he has.. they all looked really excited to get inside and see Matt. our homeboy!!!!

Extreme honourable mention: Black Helicopter hasn't been a big fave of mine, but it was fantastic last night... I loved it..

Victoria, you're in for a treat tonite!!!!!!!

It's not really up to him as to how long of a show he gets to perform per se, however, it has more to do with the contract that was signed for the particular performance.

A club show is generally 80 or so minutes on average; always has been as long as I can remember (back to WLRRR). In Oshawa, the set list was performed as written except for the third encore track listed as "AUDIBLE". I'm guessing, as he mentioned on his blog a week or so ago, that he ran out of time.

In club shows, more often than not, the venue pushes his start time back because they want people to buy booze. That's one of the reasons I hate club shows; however, at the same time, I got to stand six feet from the stage (and about 12-15 feet from Matt) and I can't do that at a concert hall show with reserved seating.

Likewise, the concert hall shows - like Toronto and Vancouver - generally have a higher ticket price attached to them so I'd guess that has something to do with it. Massey Hall here in Toronto was well over $50 after TicketRapist fees. The club show in Oshawa was around $32 with fees.

He also mentioned that the crowds in Oshawa, Peterborough and Sarnia were very intense. The Oshawa shows was quite killer and he put on, in my mind, the BEST performance I'd seen to date. Even then, with that said, he didn't play the last encore because his set end time was 12:30 (probably stated on the contract).

All of these shows are different... that's the beauty.

Just got back from the Nanaimo show, since its the end of the tour people probably aren't as interested in setlists but here it is (order in the middle might be a bit messed up). The order was a bit different than what he has been playing:

Champions of Nothing

Apparitions

Single Explosion

Odette

It's Been a While Since I Was Your Man

The Devil's in Your Details

Born Losers

Hello Time Bomb

Put Out Your Lights

I'm A Window

99% of Us is Failure

Blue Skies Over Badlands

Black Helicopter

Weapon

Giant

Load Me Up

Girl in the War

After the first few songs, the crowd sang Happy Birthday for Matt, to which he replied "that's why we're the professionals" haha. At one point someone in the crowd yelled out "nice guitar!" when he took out his SG. He replied quickly "it is, isn't it" and then starting talking about the guitar for awhile. Most of the crowd didn't seem to be all that into it though, 95% of them were just sitting still in their seats watching the show. Kind of made me feel a bit self concious when I was getting into it a bit. There was some good energy in the encore, a lot of people seemed to be into Giant. It was an excellent venue, a newer small theatre, great sound and very loud. The highlight of the show for me was Weapon, just the way they played it was great. My brother, who is not a major MG fan, said he thought it was an amazing bargain for the price the ticket and the quality of the show. I would have to agree.

Thanks for posting the set list. I thought it was a great show. The sound and the venue were very good, but I agree that the crowd seemed a bit subdued. I was in the second row and I felt like I was the only person singing along and rocking out!

Still, I loved every minute of it, and was grateful (and a little starstruck!) that I got to meet Matt and get a picture with him after the show. He was incredibly pleasant and charming, and it just made the night even better.

Does anybody remember the Victoria Setlist? I've been trying to piece it together, But I just can't remember. I know he started with "Giant" and that "Alert Status Red" and "Everything is Automatic" were played in addition to the ones that are the regulars, But I can't remember if there was anything else out of the ordinary or what order they were in. Any help would be really appreciated.
