Deep 6ix

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why the song "Deep 6ix" was changed to "I Miss New Wave" from the cd "Beautiful Midnight". I was really confused when I noticed that. My cd was purchased back in 1998, so I assume it was changed after that. I always thought it was funny that "Deep Six" was on "Underdogs".

I Miss New Wave was also mis-labeled on iTunes Canada as "Deep 6ix" for a long time there. They've fixed it now. But if you had loaded your CD into iTunes, iTunes may have mis-labeled it that way. I suspect that was the cause for confusion.

I have always thought the American version of Beautiful Midnight would have been awesome, with some of the best songs from Underdogs on there as well. Also, I think Hello Time Bomb, Load Me Up, Everything is Automatic and maybe Deep Six were re-mixed or something like that, for the American version. You can hear the difference if you listen to the previews on the American iTunes. I would really like to hear those versions, just out of interest.

I don't know... for me personally, I Miss New Wave, Let's Get it On and Going All the Way are my three least favourite songs on the album (not that they aren't still great songs). For someone listening to MGB for the first time, replacing those three songs with Deep Six, Apparitions and Everything is Automatic would make that album even better. Remember that this was the only MGB album available in the US at the time.

Obviously I would rather have the original 3 songs and also have all of Underdogs, but if that was the only album available to you, the Underdogs songs make it a better album for a first-time listener.

jenny's song is CLEARLY the worst songs on BM, it's like rico 2.0

hell i'd RATHER listen to rico

i would list new wave as one of the best songs

Thanks guys! Now I have to go find my cd in a box somewhere and check it out.

So I load the cd (it is 1999) and the song comes up "Deep 6ix" on itunes, but the cd cover says "I Miss New Wave". I think I still have a Canadian version, because "Everything is Automatic" is not on it.

I still like the HTB remix better than the original. More rock power, and the sound effects work really well at a louder volume.

But Chris Lord-Alge was a terrible mixer in those days (with some modest improvement in recent years, starting with Green Day's American Idiot). The HTB remix is the only one on the US version that I like. (Lord-Alge was the "big name" mixer that every label would turn to for their "new" acts - I'm assuming he must have been dirt cheap to hire. His brother Tom did way better work.)

Yeah, you have a Canadian version, iTunes is just mis-labeling it.

I have the Canadian version bought in 99, which has the " I miss new wave" title, but when I transferred it to my computer and put it on my Ipod, the name changed to Deep6. It's probably an IPOD thing, or something, but it does bug me a bit that it isn't the right song title.

Totally disagreed. I Miss New Wave is an essential Beautiful Midnight song. It fits so perfectly on there. It's one of my favourite MG songs ever and Going All The Way is awesome and Let's Get It On is a good solid song. 2 of some of the best songs on there. That's the real Beautiful Midnight. I think it would flow better that way and you're still getting all the songs if you have both albums. You don't get the qualities of I Miss New Wave with any of those 3 songs from Underdogs. As far as first time listening, I Miss New Wave was one of the songs that struck me most when I first heard BM. Canadian version OWNS US version. Period. ;)

The American version of BM does not flow as well as the Canadian version.

100,000 points!

I would have to disagree with you there... I mean Rico is a sound with pretty limited depth.

Maybe I'm soft for Jenny's Song because of the related short story...

to me, it's a song that isn't even good enough to make it onto the raygun ep

hate it so much

Obviously the Canadian BM flows better than the U.S. version, as it's presented in the way the artist originally intended. I do agree with uglyredhonda though about the American Hello Time Bomb sounding better, I like the heavier sound.

To each their own, but Jenni's Song IMHO is far superior to Rico whether or not you've read the short story (Midnight Opus was it called?). I love the solo and think it would've done well as a single (I heard Giant had been discussed as the 4th single rather than The Future Is X-Rated, but they probably would have edited it to pieces considering it clocks in at just over 6 minutes).

Going back to the topic title, does anyone know why Deep Six was changed to Deep 6ix? Did it have something to do with the annoying tendency for mainstream songs to have the words in their titles changed to numbers and letters? What do U think?

Jenni's Song is great... far, far better than Rico. Still can't understand how anyone could not like it.

but to each their own. so oh well...

Original version of BM is the only way to listen to the album.

with rico, at least you get to chant "fuck off, fuck off, fuck off, etc."

jenni's song you just get to stew in your rage at how such a song could make it onto such a high quality album.
