This was a helluva tough process of elimination! It's really not possible to have a coherent setlist that includes all your favourites, but I managed to squeeze a lot of them in. It would be incredible if they were able to have a small string section on tour as well, that would definitely affect selections and sequence.

Last Parade

The Boy Who Could Explode

Double Life (hell yeah Double Life!)

Fought to Fight It

A Silent Army In The Trees

Going All The Way

Odette

Born Losers

i'd prefer everything is automatic over timebomb/load me up as well

i could only pray his setlist would include:

-boy come home

-rat who would be king (haven't heard it on tour since '05)

-house of smoke and mirrors

-let's get it on

-invasion 1

-ANYTHING from last of the ghetto astronauts

my dying wish?

-dancing invisible

-heather's like sunday

with the last two, it wouldn't even matter if they didn't sound close to the recorded versions. these are in my top five favourite songs of all time ever by anyone. i know he doesn't know how to play them, but who knows.

Wouldn't it be great if he played some of his old demos? Those are 2 fine choices you've made there.

Agreed on the old demos. The ones mentioned (Dancing Invisible, Heather's Like Sunday, As Long As You're Mine) are fantastic and I would add Whispering In The Dark, Folk Singer, Casual Walks, A Better Pain, Mercy Misses You, Last Of The Ghetto Astronauts (love the bass in this song), The Ocean (gorgeous) and Bluebird.

I agree about the Load Me Up/Time Bomb thing too (unless he did the slow extended ending). I guess he's under some sort of obligation to play them (for some people it seems like that's why they go to the concerts, that and to scream RICO! right in the fucking middle of a quiet part of Blue Skies or Near Fantastica). Oh well.

I based my list before on what I thought would be somewhat realistic considering what he's played in recent years. But like AnOceanPearl, I could come up with quite a few setlists.

I think it's "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" ;) .

If I went with the whole back catalogue, I could sit here for hours coming up with different, diverse setlists. Even going with the rehearsal list Matt posted for the last tour, and adding the songs from Vancouver, I could still come up with a good handful.

One thing I would love to see though- no singles, barring Last Parade, as it is new and I would like to hear it live.

Truffle Pigs is in Drop-D tuning, minus another half step (like quite a few songs on AOB) Without your guitar being set up to handle that tuning for extended periods of time, the low D-flat string has a tendency to a)go out of tune and b)flop around like a fish out of water due to low tension, making it sound like a bag of ass. I do recall him saying that even though he arranged Carmelina (which is also in that tuning) to be played live just a half-step down, he felt that Truffle Pigs loses something in it's presentation if it's not in the drop tuning, so he just never bothered trying to play the song often.

He played Truffle Pigs once in 06 for the acoustic tour. The song is in DADGAD, but I think the main reason why he doesn't play it is becuase it is about Jen. I am sure he just distances himself from a song that was so personal and written for her. I uploaded the Edmonton show with it but my downlaod limit was reached, so I will redo it early this week.

Makes sense.

You have a show to upload? Cool! Looking forward to it.

He said it was about Jen when he was talking about Audio of Being. He said that he was just bummed out from all the things that went along with making the record and the fact that she was half way around the world modeling in Japan. Matt stated that this made things extra difficult and hard on him as him and Jen had just started dating.Truffle Pigs came about from this experience(Jen I'll bring them to their knees). Also Fine Art is in the same tuning, and he plays it quite regularly. Also when he did play Carmelina on the 04 tour, I am pretty sure he just played it in drop d, half a step down.
