I'm going to shot in the dark here: Maybe Matt doesn't want to remove the comments and email link because it destroys the nature of the medium. Maybe he doesn't want to run the blog because regardless of whether or not he posts an email link, somebody will eventually find out his email address and post it all over the internet. At least if he has a public link, then the casual assholes don't spend time searching. This whole debate is just a shit storm. Now if we can stop fucking arguing about his reasons and get back onto the topic of this thread. There are plenty of threads for the purpose of arguing whether or not he was 'right'. What I am talking about is not him owing his fans anything, but to continue sharing his perspectives to the public...The public didn't stop him, he stopped himself. Uhhh...yeh, I don't get it. At first you say he owes nothing. And then you say he is obligated to continue sharing his opinions? Which one is it? I definitely take issue with the idea that he is, for some reason, morally obligated to continue his blog. And that last sentence...I totally agree. Listen, everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and that’s wonderful and all, but I’m not really up for listening to conservative hacks throw around the same trite information day in and day out when they display an obvious lack of education with regards to US covert and foreign policy, among other things. It’s infuriating. I correspond with a few conservative academics, mostly Americans, and I respect their input because they teach at the university level. But kids who use that tract to push buttons, not interested. I do talks for Amnesty to Canadian University students, and others, about human rights in the context of the current geopolitical climate. I will be doing talks for Get Your Vote On here in BC in March. I do the same for Ceasefire. I’ve even been invited to speak at a handful of American colleges. I get requests from CPAC and political journals for interviews, and the Toronto Star called my blog one of the ten best in the country. If I had no clue what I was talking about, I’d remain a celebrity face on websites, I would not be talking on the behalf of highly reputable organizations or be invited to speak by others. If no one cared what I thought, I would not get the attention that I do. Plain and simple. I would simply be called another uneducated musician and tossed aside. Listen, you can banter as long as you see fit about temper tantrums or whatever you choose. Go nuts. You can paint it all as some tyrannical maneuver to quell those opinions that you feel I can’t abide. But the truth of the matter is that no one that participated made any significant arguments that did anything but take up space. I refuse to humour those that willingly defend the deaths of civilians, because that’s what defending the position of the current US administration means. If people want to dilute that so as to assuage them of any feelings of denial, fine. That’s their business. But I’ll not waste my time on it any longer. If you think that reeling off dick and fart jokes on message boards makes you some sort of giant of wit, I pitty you. If you think that linking to idiotic pictures and engaging in juvenile one one-up-man-ship is a sign of superior intellect, then you’ve got bigger problems than worrying about what’s happening on my website. That said, do me one favour if at all possible - find someone else to waste your time talking about. Matthew Good, not to attack you, but how did you get to be this educated? This is not an attack, but seriously, I'm assumming you did you're reasearch, watch, read, and follow the news as well. Well what's to stop someone else from doing that? I am not a Conservative, nor do I agree with their policies, but that does not mean I agree with your ideas either. I was not even trying to push your buttons either, I assumed you would never read this even. It is great that you do talks, and try to help peak people's interests in politics. I am not even trying to take away from that, but if you were not famous, some of those opportunities would still be hard to come by. But just because someone does not agree with your positions on the U.S. government, does not mean they do not disagree with the U.S. government themselves. We had a topic about being anti-war on those board recently, about being anti-war. And both sides were represented. Some wars need to be fought, if it was not for the allies in World War Two, how many more Jewish people would have been killed by Adolf Hitler? He managed to murder five million. He also manage to kill another million that were simply against him. Sometimes, there are peaceful means to stop crazed madmen such as Hitler that includes non-violent means. Such as Kruschev, who simply waited out Stalin, and once Stalin was gone, he began trying to show people the truth about Stalin. That could not have happened with Hitler though, he had to be stopped through force. I, however, do agree with some of your stances on the internet, such as some of the comments people here have said about Jennifer Good recently. I truthfully was not intrested in what you had to say recently, but I did think that some of the fans, were blindly taking your side. Some people do both and that should really go to show how solid ground their argument stands on when you reach that far for a reaction. Also, Matt (the non-good one), not everyone who defended MG blindly took his side or is a kiss-ass. But the man has a point when he says that none of us have walked in his shoes. The amount of hatred he received in his commentary was just baffling and I shudder to think what he received in private communications. With the exception of JM and Bizud. Basically, if you don't like it here then don't post. If you're going to be decent then by all means, post away. If you're just going to be an ass, we will ban you. The three strike rule will be lifted for the next few days. If you just post to cause trouble you will be banned.
