The End Of An Era, Allegedly

well im probably not going to be attending any more of his concerts

How about waiting to see what the new stuff is like first? Just a thought.

yeah, i mean if you've liked everything he's done so far it would only stand to reason that your going to enjoy what ever direction he goes in next...

I think it's someting we should have seen coming anyways. Matt has a dynamic range of musical sound, some of which he's only just begin to tap into and i'm interested to hear what comes next.

it'd be like what Bob Dylan did, just the opposite

"Good is unsure if he will tour the record in the US or not"

I like this sentence... alot. It gives me a shread of hope. Although I think Matt's follow up remarks about "being arrested" are a little melodramatic. He might catch flack, but contrary to popular belief this isn't communist China...

Stop making sense, woman!

Also, seeing as Can't get shot will be on the next album, I think that's more the direction he's going in as opposed to the Jack Pillowhead stuff.

I think its about time he stopped all the MGB stuff. Its time to move on and start new things. The MGB stuff is great, but think of what Matt could do without having the "burden" or MGB stuff on his plate.

agreed. i hate it when artists have staples, or are expected to do something like have encores, or play specific songs. if they fall into that trap, it gets increasingly difficult to make change. change is good. change is better than being forced to play the same songs every night for the rest of your life to people who just prefer hearing the songs they like. "well i know i like this song, so i'd rather hear it than something i could potentially not like". we figure because we're the ones who put the money down that we're the boss. not true. it's a mutual exchange and it's all about the unexpectedness or the changes that make live performances so unique in the first place, so why can't that same idea be adhered to recordings??

i like the direct matt is going in

if everyone knows he's trying to distance himself from MGB, then maybe those retards that throw crap at him won't go to his concerts and i'd actually enjoy listening to him play (and possibly sneak in a greatest hit here and there)

I believe he indicated that he was trying to put "Can't Get Shot In the Back" on the new album during his appearance on CFOX's "Uninvited Guest" a few weeks back.

As for the whole distancing himself from the old stuff debacle, I can see where some of the nay sayers are coming from here. While I personally will always give Matt's music a shot, alot of the people I introduced him to will always love his beautiful midnight/underdogs/audio of being era stuff. Even tracks off of Avalanche have a special place in their heart... These songs have memories and emotion attached to them, so if they were to ever see him live, they'd want to relive those songs with a jam packed room of people, not sit back and observe Matt's lastest "revamping".

I know people will go "well Matt wants to get rid of the rowdy MGB elements at shows and continue his artistic growth etc etc" but unforunately that's not a realistic situation. As long as his name is Matthew Good, people will show up to hear tracks like apparitions, hello time bomb, etc and if he gets up there and plays all new stuff and ignores their cries for the classics, trust me on some occasions it'll get uglier than the stupid kids moshing and tossing things occasions ever did.

At the same time I understand Matt's need to move on. I mean he tours religously and has been playing the same songs over and over for years. He said that the release of "In a Coma" would mark the end of one part of his career and would be very freeing for him, and thus this move is not unexpected at all. I just don't see the harm in slipping in a few classics as we know and love them every once in a while.

I also think everyone from the US must spend some time typing out a nice persuasive essay and email it to him on why he should come to the US.

I definitely want to be able to hear all the classic MG( B ) stuff live before he moves on, and if he doesn't tour the US, there's no way i'll be able to.

haha it's funny that you suggest that, because I just got done writing an e-mail trying to convince him to swing through the detroit area.
