Questions For Canadian Bored-ers

i thought Avalanche went Platinum.. im probably wrong tho..

Matt Good's a pretty big deal in Vancouver still.. I dont know anyone who doesnt at least KNOW about him. I know a lot of people who dont care or dislike him, but.. yeah.. at least they know of him. And most of the people who like him either really like him, or respect him more than most artists, even if they dont LOVE his music.

I felt that Avalanche was a pretty big deal (well.. maybe only within my lil bubble), and was almost a return to the popularity of Beautiful Midnight.. there was an hour long special or something on MuchMusic that had him talking about his new album, and showed him making the new videos for Weapon and World Called Catastrophe. And Weapon was a huge single.. in Vancouver, anyways..

Anyway... In a Coma is a greatest hits... and those RARELY sell anywhere near to a proper release.. unless marketed properly.. and we've already covered how that doesnt happen above the border.

I almost think Rooms would've sold better on its own than part of In A Coma. Besides that, there are only 2 new songs on IAC that are new, so some people aren't going to buy it. The bigger fans already have the material, but most of them probably bought it for Rooms anyway. Hah, so maybe it was a good idea to put them together. Casual fans get all the Matt Good they want and if they choose to buy the 2-disc, they see a glimpse of his deeper side. I suppose it was due to marketing, but I don't think a greatest hits is ever going to sell as well as an actual album.

But he's still very well known and gets lots of play time on the radio and his new videos get on MuchMusic

Muchmusic and even MuchMoreMusic didn't touch It's Been A While Since I was Your Man.

I don't think he wanted to make a video but they made one anyway and sooooo tada.

Someone posted that MuchMusic won't touch "It's Been Awhile.." I'm not all that familiar with MuchMusic, being American, but I am surprised by that. I think that song is one of his most radio-friendly and accessible lately. It just fits in well with a lot of the music that's getting heavy airplay right now, but yet he's had no luck with it?

I think that Matt has the kind of career then one can only hope for. He was really popular for a while and made all his money and established his name etc . . . but now he gets to play the best venues (which I think are the smaller ones, not stadiums)and because he hasn't had a huge radio hit in a while, he is playing to an audience of mostly genuine fans and not just 'timebombers' as you guys put it. I think that he is doing what he wants to right now and that is all you can hope to do as a musician.
