Here's the reason you can karate chop a cinder block without breaking your hand:

 

There are two basic ways to break an object; tension and compression (pulling it apart and ushing it together). Most objects are easier to break by tension, and when you karate chop a cinder block, you apply tension to it, and compression to your hand.

 

Thus, it works not because it's easier to break a cinder block than the bones in your hand, but because it's easier to break a cinder block by tension than it is to break a hand by compression.

I dunno about any elephants, but light beer can bite the big one. I like mine dark and strong. McEwan's namely, a nice 8% dark beer from Scotland. Happy hour is here.
